Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (Mvezo, Unión de Sudáfrica, 18 de julio de 1918 - Johannesburgo, Gauteng, Sudáfrica, 5 de diciembre de 2013), fue un abogado, político, líder del Congreso Nacional Africano (CNA) y comandante en jefe de la organización guerrillera Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) o 'La Lanza de la Nación'. En palabras de van Engeland y Rudolph (2007), pasó de terrorista a político hasta llegar a presidente de Sudáfrica (1994 - 1999). Su última aparición pública fue el 11 de julio de 2010 en la final del Campeonato Mundial de fútbol de Sudáfrica 2010. Falleció el día 5 de diciembre del año 2013.

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was South Africa's first black chief executive, and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation.
