Siddhartha Gautamá (Lumbiní, hacia el siglo V – siglo IV a. C.) también llamado Sakyamuni (el "sabio de los Sakya") fue un importante religioso nepalí (India) considerado el último buda histórico y fundador del budismo. En idioma sánscrito, el término buddha significa ‘despierto, iluminado, inteligente’.
Es una figura religiosa sagrada para dos de las religiones con mayor número de adeptos, el budismo (fue fundador del dharma budista y primer «gran iluminado») y el hinduismo (en el que se lo considera como la novena encarnación del dios Visnú.

Siddhārtha Gautama was a spiritual teacher from the Indian subcontinent, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. In most Buddhist traditions, he is regarded as the Supreme Buddha of our age, "Buddha" meaning "awakened one" or "the enlightened one."
