Merle Shain (1935-1989), nacida en Toronto, fue autora y periodista canadiense. Como periodista, trabajó como redactor para el Toronto Telegram, como editor asociado de la revista Chatelaine y como columnista para el Toronto Sun. Shain también trabajó como presentadora de la televisión, siendo anfitriona del noticiario de CTV W5. Durante cuatro años, fue miembro de la junta de la National Film Board of Canada. Sus libros incluyen: Some Men Are More Perfect Than Others, When Lovers Are Friends, Hearts That We Broke Long Ago, y Courage My Love.
